weiss gives a slow raise of a single brow towards ruby, as if to say ‘really?’, but she doesn’t say anything the question. honestly, her expression should be more than enough of a response. “it’s possible,” she replies instead, simply, and gives a delicate shrug of her shoulders. “if anything, you’ll at least find a way to go higher in the air with that scythe of yours. —— hold on. you’re not ACTUALLY thinking of trying this, are you?!”

EXTROSPECTION.
growing up, life in the schnee family household was anything but easy and warm. much like her family name, it was cold. a father, busy with his business, never satisfied with the achievements and failures of his family. a mother, absent and gone who's portrait would never be shown and name never spoken. an older sister, the only bright spot in her life who betrayed her when she left, leaving weiss to deal with the fallout and the exceeding expectations and anger of her father that she never managed to live up to. a younger brother, who was always distant and calculating, an ulterior motive in everything he did and who could care less about whatever meaning 'family matters' held.
no. life in the schnee family household was not fun. it was not easy. and it was not warm. it was hard, and it was agonizing. weiss is a prodigy in her own right : musically inclined, booksmart, lightning whip fast mind, and flawless form in her fighting. but her fighting - her ambitions, her want to set out on a path of her own - was always just another topic of discussion for her father. another disappointment for him to point out, another thing for him to be disatisfied of her. and when it wasn't her not meeting his expections - not hitting the note perfectly enough, not having the right form in her steps, not standing straight enough, not being polite enough, not following his every order and command enough - it was the white fang.
a thorn in her father's side, and a constant source of pain for weiss. her immediate family wasn't close, but her uncles, her aunts, her grandparents - she loved them. and they cared for her. the white fang, on the other hand, cared not for them. more than once, news of beheadings, of stabbings, of ransoms and killings of members of the schnee family and the schnee business board were delivered in morning at breakfast. more than once, her father grew cold and vicious in his retaliations to them. more than once, weiss dealt with her father's displeasure verbally. do more. be more. become more. why wasn't she more? why wasn't she enough?
seventeen. years since winter left home, even more since mother had left. quietly, weiss applied to beacon academy. she studied hard, and practiced even harder. she passed her tests with flying colors - a testament to the scar on her left eye that she's made sure would never be repeated - and gained entrance to beacon academy. and for the first time --- she stood up to her father. he stood tall, cold and angry and demanding her to stay home. but weiss stood taller, and told him she was going.
and go forward she did. come morning, before he could force her to stay, she was already gone.
but the world outside is bright & new, and you are still cold and distant. life has gone on without you, and while you've gotten everythiing you could ever need, now you need to learn to accept and seek out what you want.
INTROSPECTION.
weiss schnee is a nineteen year old girl of distant german descent. she belongs to an extremely wealthy family, courtesy of her grandparents who own the biggest corporation on dust. as a result, weiss has grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth since the very beginning, and has never had to live her life needing a thing. she hasn't had to go through financial hardships, hasn't had to deal with the pain others have had to go through. weiss knows she can't complain : and so, she doesn't. but the saying money can't buy you happiness is all too true, and in a dysfunctional home where everyone would rather say nothing and pretend everything is fine, money is the last thing weiss would ever wish for.
neglected emotionally, disciplined harshly verbally, targeted for her family name and her family's mistakes and wrongdoings, weiss has learned from a young age to embody her namesake and be cold. to show no emotion is better than to show emotion and be chastised for it. if she appears to be strong and in control all the time, then she can never be weak. no one can take advantage of her, and no one can betray her. her strength comes from her coldness, but the inexplicable loneliness weiss has felt since she's been a young child haunts her still today. the only real friend she had was her older sister winter, but that relationship grew strained when winter left and weiss dealt with their father alone. she still loves, respects, and looks up to winter -- but a part of her still feels hurt and burned that her sister would leave her despite knowing it wasn't because of her.
living up to her father's expectations has never been easy, and the truth of it is, weiss never has lived up to her father's expectations. weiss is rebellious in her nature, from attending beacon and refusing to speak to her family while she was there, to her left - facing ponytail against her otherwise symmetrical appearance. she wants to go against everything her father is and wants her to be, but at the same time, she strives to make him proud and to gain his respect. she's been refused that privilege all her life, and though she'll never admit it, she's always wanted to earn it. weiss knows she's not perfect -- and she'll say as much to anyone who asks it, and will get angry at anyone who assumes she is -- but she wants to be perfect, and she aims to be perfect.
despite her stand - offish and cold demeanor, though, weiss can be warm. she takes a while to warm up to others, and has no time or temper for anyone who doesn't show her or her friends respect or don't seem serious enough in life, but given time, weiss will inevitably warm up to them. she is loyal to the bone, and despite her blunt and unapologetic nature - weiss will always say what's on her mind, and she is not afraid of telling the hard truth to friends - she does care. she can seem harsh and mean at times to her friends, but what she says she says out of concern usually. when she's angry, however, she can be cruel and biting, and say things she doesn't mean. it's a habit born out of needing to survive at home, where she needs to be the perfect child, and where every argument with others she's needed to win.
weiss can warm up to others given time, but opening up is another story. even with ruby, yang and blake, weiss never speaks of her family. she keeps quiet on them, and keeps quiet on her personal feelings, on her loneliness and the hardships she'd faced growing up. it's a result of knowing she could never complain, knowing she was well off, and knowing her father would chastise her for showing vulnerablity and weakness, 'inappropriate emotions'. given the right situation - such as during her argument with blake on the white fang - she will open up about personal matters, but not easily.
she isn't all ice and cold, though. weiss has a prevalent sense of humor, though it's dry and biting in its nature. she likes to try her hand at puns sometimes too, though she's horrible at on-the-fly and topical jokes, and usually leaves that to yang. she loves to shop, and she's generous with her money as she loves to treat her friends to things : be it food, clothing, or gifts. she's sympathetic to other peoples plights and problems, and feels guilt for the actions of her family despite not being responsible for them herself. weiss's want to help others and to give back to the world in a positive way - as sort of penance for her family, and in response to her rich upbringing - is strong and a major reason for her deciding to become a huntress instead of following her father's footsteps to become the inheritant of her father's business. in the end, all weiss wants to do is help, and she aims to achieve that.
